It was a quiet, quick walk to the kitchen. Separating from Paige, Ray went to turn on the ceiling fan over the table, because its light was controllable and not as bright as the other hallogen bulbs. He kept the lights dim, then with a little grin headed for the freezer.
After a little bit of rummaging, he closed the freezer with his foot, about ten boxes in his hands. He dumped them on the counter with a proud grin on his face.
"Okay, so yeah," Ray said; "I got a lil bit of everything..."

"Wonderful." Paige announced with a small smile. "Surprise me." She decided in a slightly exhausted tone and went over to the table.
The teen sat down and crossed her arms over the table. She looked over at Ray as he got Dinnfast out, and her stomach doing an uncomfortable flip that caused her to bite her lip. She quickly glanced up at the cieling with a slightly desperate look and then glanced out the kitchen window.

Ray watched her sit down, thinking; "Hey," he said; "How 'bout I make hashbrowns?"
Before waiting for her reply, he'd put the hotpockets up, and had instead gotten four potatoes. He let them roll out on the counter, then went about getting the necessary tools.
He'd already started cutting up the potatoes, trying to stick to the recipe he knew as much as he could. And that called for fresh, sliced potatoes. But As Ray tried to show off his cooking proess, he nicked his finger.
"Aw crap!" he exclaimed, dropping the knife as he stuck his finger in his mouth. He frowned at the potatoes, muttering obsenities at them as if they would hear and be deeply hurt.

"Mmm." Paige replied, deep in thought and not really hearing what he said. Ray does drugs... She thought and shook her head to clear the thought. Ray did drugs. She corrected herself and wondered if he'd actually stop, she had a feeling it wasn't going to be that simple.
She was ripped out of her thoughts and glanced over at him in concern. "Aw, Ah'll get a band-aid." The teen muttered sleepily as she got up, her confused and tired state causing her accent to slip.

"No, it's cool," Ray said, giving her a sheepish smile. Then, he saw the look she had on her face. It was close to the one Sam had... "Paige, I don't just do it to do it," he said quickly; "I... I got a letter from home..." his voice trailed off, then he changed the subject.
"It's cool when your accent slips. It's cute," he said, blushing.

Paige walked over and grabbed the first-aid box out of the cupboard Sam had indicated on his own tour. Sam's tour had been more about emergency exits and safety than the cool features.
"Ray." She warned, indicating she didn't want to discuss it, especially when said drugs were wearing off and she was extremely tired.
She bit her lip and shook her head. Paige in no way found the accent cute, but rather annoying when she forgot about it.

Ray gave her a weak smile; "Maybe we should skip this? You sound tired, and I'm not helping..." he looked down at the potatoes; "I can always finish this, and you can have them for breakfast."

"Dinnfast." Paige corrected him and took his hand in hers. "You, made a bad choice. People do it all the time. The world is an imperfect place, we'll work on it." She assured him and took her time putting a band-aid on him.
Ray had nice hands, and the skin contact was nice. She'd been avoiding skin contact for a while, fearing her skin would suddenly fry and fall off and reveal that she was mutant. She wasn't so afraid of her power anymore, and she'd been in other skins around Ray before... it was nice having someone you could be open with. She kinda missed being able to talk to Sam...

Ray was silent as she spoke, feeling the softness of her hands. It never failed that girls had soft hands, which was a nice contrast to his own.
When she was done, he continued to hold her hand in his own, looking at her. "Paige..." he began; "I..."
"What would you say if I told you I was gonna go to Chicago? For a while. I mean, it wouldn't be more than a couple of days... would you be upset?"

Paige smiled at him and rubbed thumb back and forth on his hand. "What?"
"Of course I'd be upset! LEAVING ME FOR A COUPLE DAYS!" She said dramatically and gave him a questioning look. "You aren't tethered to me. Just make sure you're back by next week, or you'll miss the trip to Kentucky."

Ray was a little afraid when she got all dramatic, but sighed as she was only joking; "I wouldn't miss that for the world," he said, smiling; "Trust me, Kentucky is sounding pretty darn good, especially from what you and Sam have told me;" he paused, just looking at her for a moment, transfixed.
Then, he kissed her. it was quick, chaste, but a kiss none the less.
Ray was quick about it. He leaned back, looking at her with a shocked expression; "Paige, I..."

Paige was shocked, too shocked to return it before the quick kiss ended.
Her eyebrows were raised in surprise and a dreamy smile floating on her mouth. She stared at him and smiled shyly, not saying anything, but surprisingly not blushing.

"I..." Ray stuttered, then he sighed and gave her a lopsided grin; "Hey." he settled on that, wondering what would happen next, or if anything would happen at all. He wondered why she wasn't blushing and he felt his face burning, but he let it slide.

"Hey." She whispered and studied his face for a while before leaning up and placing a light kiss on his lips. After all, she hadn't returned his kiss and she didn't want him to think she hadn't liked it.

Ray had somewhat expected that. He wrapped an arm around her waist, and knew he was probably the luckiest guy on earth. He kissed her again, then rested his forehead against her's with a loopy smile.
"Hey," he said again, grinning.
He was wondering if "hey" would become a certain codeword later on down the road...
