What's wrong? (semi-con't fr: "new arrival")

Ray was lounging on the couch in the living room, channel surfing. He was going to go down to the Danger Room, but decided against it. He then decided to wait for X23 and Paige to finish up with their "girl talk", and then they could do something after that.

CSI flashed onto the screen, and Ray kept it there. Tucking a pillow under his head, he stared at the screen, noting how Catherine's hair was not nearly as pretty as Paige's.

What? Ray asked himself, Why would I think that? Okay, Crisp, get a grip.

In all honesty, Paige was a very pretty girl, gorgeous, even. She was nice, respectful, and had this accent Ray could shamelessly said he found adorable. Ray wouldn't label her as a "hottie", he thought that term was stupid, and made a girl sound even less human. At any rate, she was definitely someone he could see himself with, if time permitted it.

But she's Sam's sister! a little voice said, and Ray frowned.

So? he asked back, aguing with himself. What's that got to do with anything? Wait, why am I even saying all this? It's not like I like her or anything...

Do I?

He had himself stumped.

Ray sat up quickly when he heard someone calling his name. After a moment, he shouted; "I'M IN THE LIVING ROOM!"

Then, he waited.

[Paige Guthrie]

Paige walked in and looked over at Ray on the couch. "Hi, um I think I upset X23... I asked her about her name and she left kind of quietly." She explained and bit her lip. "She said she talked to you about pretty much everything, and I figured you might be able to do something." She paused for a minute "Um, Ah'm sorry I upset her... I didn' mean to.."

[Ray]

Ray looked up as Paige came in, smiling a little as he sat up. His smile faded, however, as Paige relayed to him what had happened. It wasn't her fault; she didn't know.

"It's okay, it's not your fault," Ray explained as he rose; "She hasn't had it too good," he paused; "Come on, we'l lboth go find her."

[Paige Guthrie]

"Uh..." Paige said unsurely and scuffed her foot on the rug. "I'm not so sure she wanted me around..." She explained in a rather anxious voice. X23 had left in such a hurry, almost looking like she was about to cry.

[Ray]

"Probably," Ray said; "But X needs to know that people worry about her," he paused; "So uh... yeah, you don't have to come. I think you should, though."

He hoped she would, anyway. Not just for X, but for him as well.

Paige shrugged. "Ahlright..." She said with a sigh and followed Ray out the door.
