Ray soon had them at the burger joint, parking the bike and getting off. They walked in and Ray observed the menu. There were a lot of options, a lot of huge, greasy, fattening options that no doubt rocked.
"Geezus, there's a lotta stuff," Ray whispered, still undecided.

Tabby mutely agreed. Weighing her options, she decided to order a burger, fries, and a chocolate shake. She reached into her pocket for her money, only to find she didn't have any.
"Sh**." She muttered, checking her other pockets. "I could've sworn I had a ten this morning..."

"No worries," Ray said, pulling out his wallet. He added his order to hers, a burger, fries, a coke, and a chicken samwich, and paid. They got their food, then sat down.

Tabby twirled her straw around in her shake before taking a sip. "Thanks. I'll pay you back when we get back." She promised, looking over at him before taking a bite of her burger.

"Nah, it's cool," Ray said before tucking in. He could admit he was a little messy eating, but he wasn't as bad a Kurt or Evan after a serious DR session. still, he should have known better not to talk with his mouth full.
"Whlogahn oafs me 'nywahy."

Tabby quirked an eyebrow, an amused look on her face. "Mind repeating that?"

Ray swallowed, wiping his mouth on the back of his hand; "Sorry," he said, coughing; "Logan owes me, anyway."
He then kept eating.

"Logan owes you?" Tabby asked, a bit skeptical. "For what?" She couldn't think of any reason Wolvie would owe anyone anything.
Tabby took another bite of her burger and finished off her fries, eyeing him suspiciously.

Ray nodded, smirking as he took a drink from his coke; "Yeah," he said; "See, I found something in the garage that is not a good find on a school campus, and so, Logan doesn't tell anybody when I smoke, and I don't tell anybody about his beer an' whiskey. Plus, I helped him fix the roof on the west wing. That counted for something!"

Tabby rolled her eyes and then snorted. It figured it was something like that. "I knew Badger could only take so much." She laughed, before finishing off her burger and taking a sip from her shake as her gaze shifted to the window.

Ray finished eating, then followed her gaze. Sometimes Tabby would get this distant look, like she was waiting for something or someone, but couldn't be sure if they were coming at all. It was really strange.
And it was bugging Ray. He looked at her then, and asked...
"Did you get a letter from your parents or something?" He didn't mean for it to sound rude or snide, but he had a feeling it might have sounded a little like that.

Tabby's gaze snapped back to Ray in an instant. She wasn't expecting him to ask something like that from out of nowhere; or the way he had. She mouthed wordlessly for a few seconds and then looked around, as if trying to make sure she wouldn't be overheard.
"Or something." She admitted, although somewhat reluctantly. Tabby knew that she could trust Ray; at least, she was pretty sure she could. He definitely wasn't the kind of guy to go around gossiping; not like it would matter anyway if her father suddenly decided to show up looking for her again. Besides, she was pretty sure the Prof. already knew, which meant that Logan, Beast, and Ororo knew. That didn't bother her, though. She just didn't want any of the others to see her 'weaker' side.
Tabby shook her head to clear her thoughts, still keeping her eyes locked on Ray's.
"It's just, " She sighed, trying to think of a good way to phrase it. A part of her wanted to tell him about her father and the fact that he was now a 'free man', so to speak, and could come after her at any given time. But another part of her was more reluctant, because she didn't want him to think any less of her for having this 'fear' of her father.
A flashback of her father beating her found it's way to the front of her mind. She quickly dismissed it though, giving no indication that anything had bothered her other than a light shudder; which could've been mistaken as a shiver from the coolness of the burger joint, she reasoned.
Tabby gave him a stoic look. "It's nothing really." She then gave a short, hollow laugh and leaned back into her seat. "Nothing that's worth worrying yourself over, anyway. Just a phone call from home that didn't exactly make my day."

Ray studied her, and nodded. He knew there was more to it, because he knew he pulled that same, indesicive look when he got flashbacks. Still, whatever was bugging her had to be big. But, he'd leave it at that. He respected her enough to give her that space.
"Sorry to hear that," he said finally, coughing; "At least you can get a phone call from anywhere, though."
He didn't sound optimistic, more so jealous. Bad parents or not, at least Tabby had them. Then again, he wagered some parents weren't worth having at all. His stepdad hadn't deserved the title "dad".
Full of conflicting interests and opinions, Ray decided to look back out the window.

Tabby leaned her arms on the table and rested her head on them, staring at her drink. Something was bothering Ray, and she figured it had something to do with his family. Because she couldn't think of any other legitimate excuse as to why he'd sound so...jealous, maybe? about a phone call from home.
Tabitha wasn't sure if he'd tell her, but she figured she'd give it a shot. If Ray wanted to keep his past just that, then she wouldn't meddle.
"What happened to your parents?" She hoped that hadn't sounded too imposing; she was just curious.

Ray glanced at her; "My dad died when I was a kid," he said quietly; "Mom remarried. Stepdad got abusive, my mom started working more. Then, one week, she left," he shrugged; "Stepdad got laid off, tried to kick I disagree... My powers flared, and I blew up the house with im in it..." he paused; "I haven't had too great o' luck with parents."
Though he was depressed, it had felt good somewhat to finally tell somebody his past. Well ,Tabby, at least. He could trust her.
