"There ain't nothin' wrong with your eyes, Swamp Rat...though it does make ya a lil' creepy in the dark, but that probably comes in handy for your profession." Rogue actually liked the color of Remy's eyes, but he didn't need to know that or else he'd start thinking she liked him too...which she...didn't.
"Ah still don't see why ya think ya had ta impress Jean-Luc--the man's crazy," grumbled Rogue, wrinkling her nose. She wasn't dumb. She had seen the look in the man's eyes when he had figured out what powers she had; and to Rogue that put Jean-Luc in a category with Mystique.
"Ah didn't attend too many games or dances back in Mississippi. Irene kept meh home most of the time 'cause of mah 'skin disease'...ahn it wasn't like Ah wanted ta go anyway. The one ahn only time Ah went Ah drained Cody ahn had ta run away. Ah've kinda sworn off school dances since then...though Kitty was talkin' 'bout some Sadie Hawkins thing comin' up in a couple of months or somethin'. Ah don't know how many times Ah've gotta tell her Ah ain't goin'. There's nothin' entertainin' 'bout a dance. Ya go, ya dance, ya talk, ya eat...ahn it costs money ta do that at school. If Ah really wanted ta, Ah could do that at the mansion for free."
Rogue shook her head at the thought. She wasn't much for dancing--even if it was in the comfort of her own locked room. Rogue just didn't dance. She didn't feel comfortable with all those people on the same floor as her...it was a recipe for disaster. There were too many opportunities to accidentally absorb someone.
"How 'bout pets?" she asked, changing the subject. "Didja ever have any pets--or does the Thieves Guild have a rule against that?"

Remy shrugged off the creepy comment, as he'd heard it before, and nodded. "Dey do deh job." He nodded and smiled a little.
"He was Remy's only father figure, an' everyone Remy grew up wit worshiped deh guy. Tah be taken undah his wing was like winnin' some championship when you thought you were just messing around in the game. Wasn' till Remy was older dat he realized his powers had been taken in, not him, and when all deh killin' started it made stealin' stuff a whole lot more dangerous and a lot less fun." The Cajun said with a slight frown. The first time someone had died had been a severe wake up call, but it wasn't until he witnessed on of the murders - one commited by the theives guild - that he realized the two rival guilds weren't just messing around.
"Dat sounds like fun chere, yah sure you aren't just scared no one'll go wit yah?" Remy questioned and hoped she'd take it as a challenge. If he could get her to go to a school dance that'd be great, and she seemed to take challenges more seriously than advice.
"Remy had a cat..." He said darkly, an almost instant frown coming on. "Julien shot Remy's cat." He added and shrugged his eyebrows in annoyance. Shooting a kid's cat was just plain rude, and Julien's prized bo staff had ended up missing shortly after the tom was found.

Rogue gritted her teeth as the Cajun teased her about finding a date for the dance. That wasn't even close to the reason why she didn't want to go...a dance was a dance, there was nothing significant about it. She opened her mouth to point out this little tid bit when she caught what seemed to be a smirk on his face. The nerve of him. Rogue clamped her mouth shut, she'd show him.
"Ah ain't afraid Ah won't find a date, Swamp Rat, 'cause you're gonna take meh," stated the southerner matter of factly. "Ahn if ya tell meh no Ah'll make ya sorry ya were ever born."
She crossed her arms in front of her chest, turning her attention back to the road, refusing to look at Remy. Rogue wasn't quite sure what she had proven by telling Remy he was going to the dance with her...if anything she was probably setting herself up for teasing and lectures galore when she returned to Bayville.
"He killed your cat? Ah hope ya got even with him." Cats were nice in Rogue's book. She liked them, they didn't need constant care or supervision like most pets. Then again, she didn't mind fish either. "Ah take it Mags won't let ya bring a pet home, huh? Ah've never really had any pets...Ah never had the patience for 'em."

"Wh-" Remy blurted out and stopped, speechless for once in his life. He, however, was Remy Lebeau; and therefore could not be speechless. She was a tad unpredictable sometimes; and, of course, now she wouldn't look at him... "Sho cherie, if dat's what yah want, Remy'll be glad tah take yah..." He agreed with a smile and a shake of his head.
Remy nodded confidently and pulled the retracted bo staff from his boot. At least the soldiers hadn't found that. "Oui, meet Remy's new cat." He said with another nod, and tossed the staff over to her.
"Remy had half a mind tah dump Julien's dog in wit deh alligators, but den deh lazy moron left this out in the open..." The red-eyed Cajun paused for a moment and figured there was no sense in lying about something that had happened over five years ago. "Or out in his dresser drawers." He corrected himself with a roguish grin. The truth was he couldn't have thrown that dog over the balcony if Julien had shot Jean-Luc himself, it wasn't the dogs fault...

Rogue stifled a giggle as Remy seemed to flounder for words. It was priceless to see the Cajun speechless for once. Even though she was now taking him to some Sadie's Hawkins dance, Rogue was pleased that she had surprised him. It was a small victory, but oh so satisfactory in her eyes.
Catching the staff in her hands, Rogue rolled her eyes. "This is your cat now? Boy, ya need a real pet. Stealin' Julien's bo staff hardly seems like much of an accomplishment, Swamp Rat. Ah'm glad ta see ya have half a conscious though," she corrected after Remy mentioned the dog. She wasn't altogether surprised that he had stolen the bo staff, he just wouldn't be Remy if he didn't steal.
Rogue winced as their vehicle went over another bump. "D'ya think we'll find any ice cream ohn the way ta Cuyo? Ah'm gettin' hot ahn ice cream is startin' ta sound real good right 'bout now." That and getting out of the car. The "road" Remy was driving down was beginning to grate on her nerves.

Remy rolled his eyes at her comments toward his beloved bo staff. He could remember the very same staff coming in handy for her a couple times back in New Orleans. "Aw, come now Rogue. That staff came in very hand for a certain little girl who tried to shove me out of a boxcar a while back." He pointed out with a smirk.
"Ice cream?" He questioned and shrugged. He wasn't sure if they had any ice cream in Cuyo. "Well." The Cajun said with a big grin. "We know they've got lunchables and chocolate." He finished with a professional nod of his head. He hadn't eaten much on the train, the soldiers hadn't provided food and his own little comments had caused Rogue to withdraw the food offer. Remy was starting to get a little hungry.
"Dis, Sadie Hawkins Dance, is Remy supposed tah get a tux?" He questioned with an almost pained expression. Casual, or semi-formal was always more enjoyable. If he had to get a tux he'd get one, but by Rogue's attitude toward the whole dance she probably had no idea...

"Ah never said it didn't come in handy, Swamp Rat," protested Rogue with a small frown. "Ah just don't see why it's so darn important ta miss--if Julien ever noticed it missin'. It's just a bo staff."
Rogue noticed the look on Remy's face when he talked about the limited meals they had had earlier. Well, technically only she had eaten since their meal had been interrupted by the soldiers. She quickly grabbed the bag of cookies she had found and thrust them into his lap, hoping he would take the hint and eat something.
"Ah don't know what ya hafta wear for the dance. Ah didn't pay much attention ta the details since Ah didn't really think Ah was gonna go. Ah'll hafta ask Kitty when Ah get back." Rogue furrowed her eyebrows thoughtfully. She hoped it wasn't too formal because she hated dressing up. It was a miracle enough that she was even going to the dance at this point. Dressing up wasn't her thing and she didn't want Kitty making a big deal about it--because that would lead to the one thing she hated the most: shopping.
"So ya don't mind goin' ta some high school dance, Swamp Rat? Especially considerin' who's gonna be there. The X-Men ain't too fond of ya since you're with Mags." Then again, most of the mutants she knew were teenagers, and she knew many of them didn't mind going to a dance with someone considered part of the enemy. Kitty and Lance were proof of that.

"Eh, well it was a bit of a family heirloom." Gambit admitted, smirking slightly and looked over at the staff. It also had several little attachments for sneaking into different types of building, like the rope he'd used when Mesmero had sent him into the Worthington manner. It was very handy.
"Alrigh', den you give Remy a call." He said with a slight smile. The picture of Rogue calling Kitty from a pay phone in Cuyo, Argentina to find out if they needed formal wear was just slightly funny. The mansion would no doubt find some way to track the number and locate Rogue, and besides that he didn't have a dying need to know right that minute.
"Dat's okay cherie, Remy'll ignore all deh weird looks if you will." He replied with a nonchalant grin. He didn't know why she thought he'd be bothered by her team mates looks. "Plus, Remy's not so sure how dat whole Magneto t'ing's goin..." He reminded her with a look that said he could care less if Magneto fired him. "How exactly does one get intah dat mansion a yoh's?" The Cajun questioned with a casual glance over at her.

"A family heirloom?" repeated Rogue dully, glancing down at the staff in her hands. "This thing's a family heirloom?" Go figure. It seemed Remy's family was even stranger than she had originally thought.
Rogue chuckled as Remy asked how to get into Xavier's mansion. "Ya just hafta show up ohn the front doorstep ahn say ya wanna join the X-Men. Lance tried it once. It's not that hard, ya just hafta get through a couple of trainin' sessions with Logan--ahn the Professor always welcomes new people ta the mansion. Why, ya thinkin' of comin' home with meh for good, Swamp Rat?"
Rogue found the entire notion of Remy returning to the mansion with her somewhat funny. Logan would go ballistic and torture the Cajun, but if anyone could give Logan a run for his money in the Danger Room Rogue figured it would be Remy. He had shown to her on several occasions now that he was adept in battle. The X-Men could use someone like him, but Rogue wasn't sure if Remy would be comfortable fighting the fight the X-Men preached.
"Ah thought ya didn't believe in the stuff Xavier's teachin' us. Ah thought that was the whole reason ya were workin' with Mags," said Rogue after a moment of silence.

"Well, Julian's family. Not anymoh, but apparently it was passed down from each generation. He got it aftah completin' some big secret mission." Gambit explained and waved his hands briefly for sarcastic emphasis. "Remy t'inks it was simply careless to leave it locked in his dresser drawers." The Cajun explained with a nod. "So when yah t'ink about it, Remy did him a favor takin' it off 'is han's."
"Yeesh, sounds real difficult, chere." Remy joked and looked over at her. "Are yah sayin' yah believe in everyt'ing Xavier stands foh?" He asked her with a quizzical expression. He had no intention of arguing with her about he beliefs, but he was curious as to whether Rogue thought that they'd be accepted by humanity if they played nice for the rest of their lives. In Remy's opinion there was nothing wrong with hitting back.

"Oh yeah, right, he was definitely careless leavin' that staff in a locked drawer. Whatever was the boy thinkin'?" agreed Rogue with a roll of her eyes. "Ah'm startin' ta worry 'bout the locks ohn mah windows now. Ah'm guessin' nothin' cahn keep ya out. Well, if ya ever decide ta come live at the mansion, ya aren't allowed anywhere near mah room. Ah don't need a Swamp Rat goin' through mah things."
Rogue was really only thinking about the journal she had hidden beneath the floorboard of her bed. If Remy ever "accidentally" found it, she'd kill him.
"Do Ah believe in everythin' Xavier stands for?" Rogue shrugged. "It's hard ta say. Ah mean, yeah there's the hope that there could be peace 'tween humans ahn mutants...but not the kind of peace the Professor wants. There are mutants out there with powers that cahn probably never be accepted. There's too much of a risk trustin' someone like a shapeshifter or, Ah dunno. There are times when Ah wonder if humans would really wanna be near meh with the powers Ah have. It's hard enough bein' 'round mutants--but it's ten times worse bein' 'round humans. Humans don't have anythin' but their own life force for meh ta absorb. That's a deadly accident waitin' ta happen."
Rogue glanced at Remy. "Some mutants might be able to live peacefully, but a lot of us will never be accepted. It's in their nature for humans not ta trust people who cahn read their minds or render 'em unconcious with a touch of a hand. But Xavier accepts everyone at the mansion. He doesn't care 'bout your past or your powers. He gives ya a place ta live. He gives ya a choice ta make 'bout your own life."

"Oui, chere, not'ing can keep Remy out. Not'ing 'cept a simple request tah be left alone... an' even dat'll fail if yah shoot his cat." The Cajun replied in a business manner, with a smile tugging at his lips. If she wanted him to stay out of her stuff then it was a done deal, but that didn't mean he couldn't 'accidentally' stumble upon her room a few times. One was bound to get lost once or twice in such a big place.
"Dat's what Remy's t'inkin'." He said with a nod. "And iss not 'cause its simply okay for dem not tah accept us eit'er. We aw jus' as human minded as deh homosapiens, powahs don't make us animals an' fer dem tah hold it agains' us is narrow minded in Remy's opinion." He replied and chance a few quick glances at her for a while. A choice. He'd thought he'd had that with Magneto; but being sent to fetch a young girl for experiments, no questions asked, was not Remy's idea of a choice.
"An' would it bug yah, ma cherie, if Remy walked yah tah deh door when we got back? Maybeh jus' tah check out a few t'ings?" He added in a very sincere tone. If she didn't want him joining the X-Men he might think twice about it, but with the giant mansion it wouldn't be like she didn't have an option to avoid him... lest he decided to make her life difficult.

Rogue smiled and nodded in satisfaction at Remy's words. Maybe there was hope for him yet if he promised to stay out of her stuff. Of course, if he did move into the mansion Rogue would have to endure the constant teasing of her housemates, but she figured it wouldn't hurt. She usually ignored everyone but Kitty and Kurt anyway.
"It sounds like ya've given the mutant-human issue some serious thought, Swamp Rat. Ah think the Professor will like talkin' with ya. He's always lookin' for someone ta have a 'deep' conversation with, ya know?" Rogue stifled another giggle. She couldn't imagine seeing Remy debating the ethics of peace between humans and mutants with the Professor. One usually didn't find a person like Remy engaging in serious conversations.
Her smile brightened at the sincere tone of voice Remy used when asking to walk her to the front door of the mansion. "Ah think Ah might actually let ya, Remy. Ya know, it might be fun ta have ya 'round the mansion--then when Ah need a late night ice cream run, ya cahn go ta the store for meh." Rogue grinned at the Cajun to show him she was only teasing, well, half teasing. It would be nice to have someone around for a change who didn't mind helping her out. There weren't many back at the mansion who'd go to the store for her when she wanted ice cream. Instead she usually found herself at the store late at night...with a ten page grocery list.

"Well, Remy'll enjoy bein' takin' seriously foh once." He replied with a joking grin. Someone actually listening to his point of view on a serious conversation? Remy wondered if he'd be thankful or aprehensive to the idea. Sure he had legally been an adult for two years, but no one took seriously a Cajun flirt with the ability to blow things up. He might actually enjoy talking with adults, other than a power hungry maniac and... a... maniac. Pyro was just crazy, no ulterior motive to the insanity.
"Ma chere." Remy said in a low tone, a playful grin playing in his lips. The Cajun reached over and took her gloved hand in his. "Remy'll break intah deh stoh at two in deh mornin', if yah ask 'im too." He placed a light, teasing kiss on her knuckles before releasing her hand and returning his attention to driving the jeep.

Rogue rolled her eyes at the comment and was grateful that Remy was returning his attention to the road again. She wasn't quite sure what she thought about him anymore...what she did know was that she didn't think of him as the enemy, or complete loser...but she wasn't ready to consider him one of her best friends. Maybe just a friend, if he didn't annoy her too much.
"Well, ya have plenty of time ta decide what you're gonna do when we get back ta Bayville," murmured Rogue.
"So this Cuyo place, where are we gonna start first?"
