The last bell of the day had just gone off and Tabby found herself still sitting under the bleachers from when she decided to ditch her math class earlier.
Tabitha rolled her eyes as the sound of voices became more apparent; not long now until the soccer team showed up for practice. Pulling a cigarette out of her pocket, she lit it and took a drag, peeking through the bleachers to see if she could see anyone she knew.
Nope. She sighed, a little disappointed; she was hoping to get this girl who had the misfortune of calling her a "trashy mutant slut" that morning in English class.
Putting her lighter in her pocket, she watched as two of the players walked by. Deciding that they'd just have to do for the time being, she created a few small bombs and tossed them at their feet.

"Got a light?"
Ray spoke softly as he approached, having been driving around after coming "home". He'd bathed, explained himself to no one, and gotten the heck outta dodge. He'd been thankful to see Tabitha. he'd needed a cigarette in a major way.
"Just don't tell Paige," he added with a half-hearted laugh.

Sam walked out of the school with a big sigh of relief. He looked over at the bleachers and seeing Ray and Tabby under them, started walking toward them. He heard Ray say something about not telling Paige and he stopped short. He could have swore Paige said she was going out with Ray, So he didn't see why Ray wouldn't tell her something.
He walked over to a wall near the bleachers and leaned on it, pretending he never saw Ray or Tabitha, and waiting to see what would happen next.

Tabby eyed him for a minute, then tossed him her lighter. "Didn't you promise her you'd quit?" She asked, looking away from him and taking another drag from her own.
Tabby hadn't really seen or talked to Ray since the little incident at Magneto's base; he'd taken off before anyone could stop him and then didn't come home for a few days.
"How're your injuries?" Tabby asked, watching as the rest of the soccer team showed up and got ready to practice.

"Yeah, but I haven't gotten the chance to follow through," Ray said with a sigh after he caught the lighter; "I mean, I tried to get to Chicago before I turned around. I've done a lotta thinking..." he lit up a cigarette, and then, took a drag.
"I haven't seen her yet," he said dejectedly as he sat down; "She's probably pissed as hell I left without even saying goodbye... I don't want her mad at me, but..." he shrugged; "I dunno. I've already dissapointed her. I think I'm a sh**ty boyfriend..." he looked at Tabby; "Honestly, would you put up with a guy like me?" he sighed again, looking away.

Sam glanced over as Ray lit a ciggarette and he let out an irrtated sigh. He had figured that after Sam had such a up roar when he found out that Ray was smoking that he had stopped, But now he was going out with Paige and still smoking.
Sam continued to watch them as he said something about being a bad boyfriend and He had to agree. "Smoking and leaving arn't really the best thing." He said sternly. "Especially when datin' my sister." He said then stopped as he realized he had said it, He had mean't to think it.
Sam quickly looked away from them and began to watch the people passing, hoping that Ray and Tabby hadn't heard him.

"Yeah well you didn't tell off one of the biggest mutants on the face of this planet then go to Chicago to hunt down your mom," Ray snapped, then, his eyes narrowed. Tabby hadn't spoken. Slowly, he turned, and he blinked slowly.
"Oh..." he said; "Hey, Sam..."
He didn't know how else to react. Sam was right. He'd been really selfish and stupid. "Deadbeat" would be a better adjective for him, but he wouldn't worry about that.

Tabby shrugged, laughing lightly. "I already do put up with you." She said, then turned her head toward the other end of the bleachers after Ray snapped at her; well, this probably wasn't good.
Unsure of what to say, she stood back, looking between the two; this wasn't her fight.

Ray looked down as he took on final drag, then threw the cigarette down and snuffed it out with his sandal.
He glanced over at Tabby, mouthing "sorry" because he hadn't meant to snap at her. Then, he looked at Sam, knowing his eyes were tired and the slight bags under his eyes were obvious.
"So what d'you wanna say?" he asked quietly, expectantly. I betcha I already know he thought.

Sam looked back over at Ray once he said his name but didn't say anything, It looked like he was talking to Tabitha anyway. He's datin' my sister and he won't even tell her that he's smoking. He said and watched Ray, obviously irritated .
"Whut the h**l do yah mean?" He asked his voice stern. "'Don't tell Paige'." He repeated what Ray had said and continued to watch him. "Does sh' even know?" He asked him and started toward Ray and Tabitha.
"Are yah still smokin' pot?" He said angry. "Or are yah jus' tryin tah kill yahself?"

Ray just sighed, rubbing his eyes and then his temples; "Please," he said testily; "Try and keep quiet before the soccer team decides to have a 'rally'," he said, looking at Sam; "She knows, Sam, okay? She knows..." he walked off a little, leaning against the bleachers.
"I don't want Paige knowing because I'd rather tell her myself," he said finally, looking at Sam; "I'd rather she'd hear about it from me than from someone else!" he let his anger get carried away, and he tried to calm down; "And that's the first drag of anything I've had in almost two weeks," he snapped, eyes narrowing; "I told y'all I was gonna quict. But it doesn't just happen over night!" he ground out, and he looked away.
"I don't expect you to get it, Sam," he said suddenly; "But when I say I'm trying, you best believe it cuz I'm not lying to you. I am trying[\i]. It's just hard."

Sam listened to what he had to say and nodded slightly. "Yeh, A've looked it up." He said and narrowed his eye brows.
"Paige knows? Does sh' know yur smokin' pot?" He said and pulled his hands into fists. "Or arh yah jus' sayin' yah told 'er yur smokin' ciggarettes?" He said still angry. "Hard tah believe yah wouldn' liah tah meh if yur lyin' tah my sis, yur girlfriahnd." He spat. "Why should ah believe anythin' yah say?"

"Because I'm not, dammit!" Ray said, eyes flashing blue for a moment; "I care too much about Paige to lie to her! Yes she knows I smoke pot, yes she knows I smoke cigarettes, and yes dammit she knows i'm f**ked up! The fact she hasn't ditched me yet makes me wanna do right by her even more than I apparently can't!"
He took in a breath, "But it's like the world don't want it," he said; "I keep screwing up, or things keep getting in my way. Sam, you don't know how much it hurts that I'm hurtin' her, but I can't do anythin' with people yellin' at me and acusin' me all the time!"
He stood there, a little worn out. He nearly staggered a little bit, but kept steady; "I'm sorry I don't meet your 'standards', Sam," he said, voice ringing with clarity; "And for the last f**king time, I don't smoke it anymore. If you don't get that in your head, you'll never trust a thing I do or say."
"And why would I lie to you? You haven't done a thing except try and help me!"

Tabby just stood back, smoking her cigarette in silence. She doubted she'd be much help even if she tried to be, so she decided to just stay out of it.
However, if they started throwing punches, then she'd probably have to intervene.

"Yeh, Ah've tried." Sam said and came into eye contact with Ray. "An' look how ah've done." He said and glance toward the crushed cigarette then back at Ray's eyes.
"Now tell meh." He said sternly. "If yah arn't lyin' tah Paige, Then whut did yah mean by 'don't tell Paige'?" He asked him, his voice deeper then it usually is. "Was it gonna be yur little secret?" He asked him and tightened his fist's, his knuckles turning slightly white.
"An' if the world hates yah so much. Whut are meh and Paige?" He said through grit teeth. "Ah obviouslah don' hate yah tha' much if ah'm tryin' tah help yah, an' Paige is datin' yah. Have ah yelled once?" He asked Ray through grit teeth, thinking about what Ray said.
"If runnin' awah is all yah got tah do, An' abandonin' Paige is worth savin' yur a**." He spat. "Then wah don't yah leave her the h**l alone and com’ back when yah grow up ah lil.”
